Get the very best possible start in the exciting fields of Games, Animation and Visual Effects (VFX) with NextGen short courses, full-time Level 3 courses and Apprenticeships.
Our short courses, sometimes delivered in partnership with organisations including the British Film Institute (BFI) and the Prince’s Trust, last for anything from one day to three weeks. You will try your hand at techniques used for making games, television and films. The skills you learn will be useful in the workplace and will help you make decisions about longer courses.
We currently offer a full-time Level 3 course at selected further education colleges. NextGen has worked closely with employers to identify what they most need from new recruits. You will learn essential skills – particularly in maths, programming and art - and an awareness of industry practice in our two-year Extended Diploma in Games, Animation and VFX Skills, accredited by AIM Awards and comparable to three A Levels. The next start date for the course will be September 2016.
NextGen has developed two Higher Apprenticeships in VFX: Junior 2D Artist and Assistant Technical Director. A Higher Apprenticeship for the games industry is also currently under development: this will be a Quality Assurance Technician/Analyst apprenticeship . You will be trained mostly on the job, by people at the very top of their game, and earn as you learn. Roughly 20% of your time will be spent studying in a classroom, learning the deeper, wider knowledge you need to progress your career. Start dates are by arrangement with your employer and training provider.
